The Solid Waste Collection Division of the Public Works Department provides solid waste collection service to approximately 7400 residential units and 90 commercial and non-profit organizations on a daily basis, five days per week. Collection service includes not only the collection of regular household and commercial waste (Municipal Solid Waste or MSW), but also yard waste, brush, bulk wood and large items (furniture, appliances, etc.). Collection of these items is continuous and generally follows MSW collection routes, but is not necessarily on the same day.

Since collection of MSW is by means of automated or semi-automated collection vehicles, a specially constructed container (cart) designed to be compatible with the lift mechanism on the collection vehicle is required. The City provides these containers at no cost to the resident or the business, in 65 gallon, 95 gallon and 300 gallon capacities. A single 95 gallon container is sufficient to meet the needs of most households.
