About the Department

The Department of Public Works is responsible for engineering, street maintenance, solid waste disposal, solid waste collection, recycling, and fleet maintenance. Our goal is to provide excellence in public service.

Requests and Concerns

The City of Bristol, Virginia will suspend the recycling of plastic and paper products effective March 1, 2019 until a local recycling vendor can be found to accept the material.

Cardboard will continue to be accepted at our convenience stations, provided that residents do not put plastics, paper, trash or other materials into the collection bin. Residents are encouraged to reduce consumption of paper and plastic materials and to reuse items as appropriate. The City will continue searching for opportunities to reinstate the paper and plastics recycling program.
