Trash Collection
What
Household garbage is defined as waste originating from a residential unit, including paper, cans, bottles, and food waste, etc.
When
Household garbage will be picked up one time per week. Cans must be placed out prior to 6:30 a.m. on the day of your pick-up and removed no later than 12: 00 a.m. of the same day.
Where
Place your cart with the wheels facing your residence, approximately 2 feet from the edge of the street pavement. Roll-out containers should be placed at the curb and accessible for waste collection vehicles. Containers shall not be blocked by cars, brush or other bulk items or against power poles. Containers that are obstructed will be left until the next week’s regular pick-up. Containers that are blocked by things that are beyond the property owner’s control should call Public Works Collections at 276-645-7380 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on regular business days.
Preparation of Waste
All waste shall be BAGGED and placed in the roll out container, drained of all liquids, to prevent litter from falling to the ground or becoming airborne as the container is being emptied. All cardboard boxes shall be broken down and placed in the rollout container or taken to any of the cardboard recycling locations. Waste that is placed on the ground around the container (boxed, bagged or loose) shall be left until materials are containerized.
Loaner Can Program
If you are a fee paying resident, the Public Works Department of the City of Bristol, Virginia offers loaner cans for special occasions or extra trash during clean up. The Collection Division will loan up to two (2) cans for one week, based upon availability, by calling 276-645-7380 or email.
