Absentee and early voting give you options for casting your ballot other than the in-person option on Election Day. Virginia has made changes in 2020 that may make it easier to vote. You no longer need an excuse to vote early in person or absentee by mail!

Absentee Voting by Mail

You no longer need an excuse to vote absentee! A ballot is mailed to you after you fill out an application (request). You return your ballot by mail or hand deliver it to City Hall (inside or via drive-thru window) during normal business hours.

Early Voting in Person

You no longer need an excuse to vote early! You do not need to apply; just visit City Hall during business hours or on the two Saturdays before the election. Please follow COVID-19 precautionary measures and make sure to bring ID.

Voting in Person on Election Day

11/3/2020
If you vote on Election Day, you cast your ballot at your assigned polling place (Bristol, VA has four precincts) from 6am-7pm on 11/3/2020. Please follow COVID-19 precautionary measures and make sure to bring ID.

Important 2020 Deadlines


Sept 18: 

Start of early voting at City Hall and absentee voting by mail.

Oct. 12:

Closed for State Holiday

Oct 13: 

Deadline to register to vote or update an existing registration.

Oct 23: 

Deadline to apply to receive an absentee ballot by mail.

Oct 24 & 31: 

Saturday early voting at City Hall from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Oct 31:

 Deadline to vote early in person by 5:00pm at City Hall.

Nov 3:

 Election Day. Polls are open from 6:00am until 7:00pm.

Nov 3: 

Deadline to postmark or hand-deliver absentee ballots to City Hall by 7:00pm.

Nov 6: 

Deadline for mailed absentee ballots to be received by our office by 12:00pm noon.
