As of June 1, 2020:
The Circuit Court Clerk's Office is now open to the public.  To enter the courthouse, facial coverings and temperature checks are required.

The Bristol Courthouse has safety measures in place.  We are working hard to balance the health and safety of all while continuing services.  Your temperature will now be screened before entering the courthouse.  
Please call before you visit our office.  We are able to conduct most business remotely, and will do our best to accommodate.
If the business you need to conduct does require a visit in person, we will take appointments.  Specifically, please call ahead and make an appointment for probates and marriage licenses.

Effective Thursday, March 26, 2020, marriage licenses will not be issued by Bristol Circuit Court Clerk's Office until further Order of this Court, as an appearance in person is required.  Please contact our main number at 276-645-7321 with questions or concerns.

Our office is currently open but limiting public access.  We ask that you take advantage of our remote services.

Please contact our office if you need a monthly subscription to Secured Remote Access (land records).  Deeds can be accepted and recorded electronically through Simplifile (1-800-460-5657 or www.simplifile.com) and CSC Recording (1-866-652-0111, erecording@cscglobal.com or www.erecording.com).  Additionally, a drop box is located outside of the Circuit Court Clerk's Office for paper deed recordings.

We strongly encourage attorneys to seek remote access to our online case imaging system (OCRA).  
We strongly encourage defendants to pay court fines and costs online (see above link).

Concealed handgun permit applications are still being accepted and processed.  Please contact us if you have questions about how to proceed.

If you need a marriage license, we encourage you to take advantage of the online marriage license application (see Marriage Licenses link to left).

Please be advised:  All Courts in the 28th Judicial Circuit and District are operating on a limited docket.  An Order has been executed and is effective as of March 16, 2020.

If you have been noticed or received a summons to appear in Court during the month of March, please call the respective Court for which you are scheduled to confirm your hearing is still set.

The Circuit Court Clerk's Office will remain open for essential business only.  Deeds continue to be recorded; however, we encourage you to take advantage of electronic recording utilizing Simplifile or CSC Recording.  Please contact our office at 276-645-7321 so that we might assist you over the phone and answer any questions you might have before visiting us in person.

Cell Phone & Electronic Device Usage Policy


Effective January 1, 2015, the general public is prohibited from bringing cell phones and all other electronic devices into the Bristol, VA Courthouse.

Welcome to the Bristol Virginia Circuit Court Clerk's Office webpage. We are honored to serve all residents of the City of Bristol, Virginia.

The Bristol Virginia Circuit Court is a trial court of general jurisdiction, having control over the following:

  • Appeals from General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and administrative agencies
  • All monetary claims over $25,000.00
  • Civil Cases, including law suits as well as family matters
  • Criminal Cases, including all felonies and crimes punishable by commitment to the State penitentiary for one year or more
  • Maintenance of court records and administrative matters for the Court
  • Probate of wills and estates
  • Recordation of Land Records, Deeds, and other related documents
  • Issuance of Marriage Licenses
  • Issuance of Concealed Handgun Permits

Our office is located within the Bristol Virginia Courthouse at 497 Cumberland Street, Room 210, Bristol, VA 24201.

Open 8:00 A.M. until 4:30 P.M., Monday - Friday.

*Recordings are accepted in the Clerk's Office from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.*
