The Office of the Treasurer is established by the Constitution of Virginia. As a Constitutional Officer, the Treasurer performs certain fiscal duties for both the City of Bristol and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Treasurer is elected every four years by the citizens of Bristol.
The scope of a Treasurer's responsibilities encompasses the collection of state and local tax levies. The Treasurer is also responsible for the safekeeping of the revenue, the appropriate accounting for and disbursement of the revenue.

Delinquent collection actions are currently in progress for tax years 2021 and prior years and may affect the payoff amount seen online.
Please call Taxing Authority Consulting Services, 804-545-2500 for an accurate payoff for 2021 and prior years delinquent tax.
Website balances for all delinquent Real Estate and Personal Property accounts for 2021 and prior years do not include collection attorney fees.

TACS accounts receivable/accounts payable process takes two weeks.
Payments made to TACS must be posted to the City's website before you may pay Real Estate 2022 tax, unless you have signed a delinquent contract payment plan and are current with making monthly payments to TACS.
All Personal Property taxes must be paid in full before a Division of Motor Vehicle license stop may be released. Please provide your TACS payment confirmation number to the Treasurer’s office so we may verify your TACS payment.
Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 to 4:30. We accept cash, check and money order payments.
For your convenience, you may drop payments into the TREASURER’S NIGHT DEPOSITORY, located on the front porch of the Court House (497 Cumberland Street, Bristol, VA 24201).

Paymentus, the service provider, charges a Convenience Fee of 2.39% for this service. Payments take 2-3 business days to post to taxpayer accounts. For urgent DMV stop releases, please pay by cash, check or money order.
The Code of Virginia §58.1-3919 requires the Treasurer, after the due date of any taxes, must notify each person who has not paid prior to that time of their delinquency. Upon failure or refusal of such person to pay the tax, the Treasurer must proceed to collect the taxes by distress or otherwise including, but not limited to, Bank Liens, Wage Liens, or DMV Stops.
